Was es hier gibt, was merkwuerdig und interessant ist, ist Mother Goose. Keine Ahnung, warum das Mutter Gans heisst, das ist der Titel einer Sammlung von seltsamer, sinnfreier bzw. enigmatischer, aber irgendwie nicht uncharmanter alter Kinderpoesie. Allgemein nennt man die �nursery rhymes�. So wie in Deutschland Grimms Maerchen, die hier viele wenn ueberhaupt nur in der Disney-Pervertierung kennen, halten hier die meisten Leute Mother Goose fuer praktisch unverzichtbar fuer die Kinderaufzucht, und es gibt ungefaehr so viele von verschiedenen Leuten illustrierte Mother Goose Ausgaben wie in Deutschland Maerchenbuecher. Keine Ahnung ob es auch �Kinder brauchen Mother Goose� gibt. Ich glaube nicht, dass es hier jemanden gibt der behauptet, dass �Hey diddle diddle / the cat played the fiddle. / The cow jumped over the moon. / The little dog laughed / to see such sport / and the dish ran away with the spoon.� eine kodierte Beschreibung psychischer Konflikte im Kindesalter sei, mit deren Hilfe Kinder ihre Aengste und was sie so haben bewaeltigen koennen. Waere natuerlich witzig. Aber da den Leuten hier vor allem wichtig ist, dass ihre Kinder mit sechs Jahren lesen koennen und sie halt immerzu alles moegliche tun um ihre geistige Entwicklung voranzutreiben, treib treib, wird die Rationale dahinter wahrscheinlich nur sein dass Mother Goose irgendwie eingaengig ist und sich reimt und so beim Sprechenlernen hilft und das Gehirn verschaltet oder was weiss ich.
Allerdings gibt es irgendwelche kulturhistorischen Deutungen. Die einzige, die Gemeingut ist, ist die, dass �Ring around the rosie / Pocket full of posie / Husha husha / We all fall down� irgendwas mit der Pest im Mittelalter zu tun hat. Andererseits sagen andere wieder, dass das nicht stuemmt.
Und psychoanalytische Deutungen auch, zum Beispiel soll 'Jack and Jill went up the hill / to fetch a pail of water / Jack fell down and broke his crown / and Jill came tumbling after' irgendwie schweinisch sein (Inzest!!), oder was weiss ich. Und offenbar haben diese nursery rhymes zumindest die klassischen Nervenkranken gut mit Bilderwerk fuer ihre Produktionen versorgt - das hier ist sehr nett.

Ja. Mother Goose. �Humpty Dumpty� ist zum Beispiel Mother Goose. Und ich dachte immer, Lewis Caroll haette sich das ausgedacht. �The lion and the unicorn� auch.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Hunpty Dumpty took a great fall.
And all the kings horses
And all the kings men
Couldn�t put Humpty Dumpty back again.

Oder hier:

Rock a bye baby

Und zum Schluss noch der:

Haha. Und dann zwickt man sein Baby in die Nase. Dieser Gedanke macht mich irgendwie froh. Nett. Ich mag Mother Goose.

. . . the rhymes communicate the most elementary of concerns of the culture to its children--concerns about nature, food, sex, and language. They also express, in their bodily rhythms and symbols, the most elementary concerns of the child. In Vincent de Santi's words, the rhymes, "are the first cultural experience with language used as a tool to convey a sense of the inner experience of one's body, feelings about oneself, desires for attachment, worry about separation, and the fears and hopes concerning aggressive and sexual urges". By symbolically acknowledging these concerns, the rhymes offer an opportunity for adults to say to children, even unconsciously, "Yes, we know how it is; we remember"--and to offer at the same time the means of control through social interaction and through language.
